phancy.com rating:

phancy.com notes: A lean, mean genre machine. A real B-movie pleasure. After settling into first gear, with a first act smartly centered on Chloë Grace Moretz's performance, the direction switches gears into a breakneck speed that doesn't let up until the very end. Everything about this movie is preposterous, but the direction is so tightly and smoothly orchestrated that there is never any time to think about that. Strap in and enjoy the ride.

Roseanne Liang's Shadow in the Cloud is the type of genre movie that makes many of its bizarre choices just for the sake of seeing if it can all work. But whether you find the film to be ambitious, or just some stunt screenwriting, it's intriguing to watch an audacious filmmaker try to keep midnight-ready movies unpredictable, even if that means a sincere but silly mash-up of WWII dogfights, gremlin chaos, and feminism in action such as this.

Grade: B - Chloë Grace Moretz goes to war and a revenge thriller goes to the extreme at Midnight Madness

Shadow In The Cloud is pure popcorn entertainment, superimposing the dynamic synths and narrative efficiency of a John Carpenter movie onto the burnished metal and green fatigues of a World War II adventure. This one stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Maude Garrett, a Women's Auxiliary Air Force officer who's been charged with protecting a highly classified piece of cargo aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress military plane departing from New Zealand.
